Strahd von Zarovich once commanded armies in a war that drove refugees into the Barovian valley, to the safety of Argynvostholt. When the Order of the Silver Dragon fell, his armies overtook the land, taking the remains of the dragon Argynvost as trophies. The war was fought so that Strahd could prove himself to his father. It is described in his diary as well as books within the Baron's library.
